9 by Design Show on Bravo

Bob and Cortney Novogratz of Sixx Design now have their own Bravo show called 9 by Design. The energy, creativity, and talent this couple has is quite impressive.  I'm just amazed at how much they accomplish with seven kids. It premiers Tuesday April 13th, however, I just watched the preview show that I recorded, and it looks like it will be good.  I'm just excited to learn from them.  I loved their design book that came out last year called : Downtown Chic: Designing Your Dream Home: From Wreck to Ravishing.  The have such a fun and practical style.  I always love a good design show!

FOCUSING ON THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE: THE STAKER'S MIRACLE

This is a story of the loving Staker family with a little boy, Bronson, who had a horrifying accident.  This is a story of faith, prayers, hope, and thankfully a miracle.
In my day-to-day routine in life, sometimes I forget to REALLY count my blessings, REALLY focus on the best things, and REALLY give thanks to a God of miracles.  Life is hard, life is trying, and life is full of ups and downs, but life is also wonderful, blissful, amazing, fun and miraculous.
I hope this story touches you like it has me.  I have been so very moved by their experience.
Go here to read the story and details.
I could tell you in my words...but it would NEVER do their experience justice.

My favorite quote from the mother was:

"As I think of that now, I realize that this is the time. The time for me, as well, to be done with lesser things. The time to focus on what is most important. Most lasting. Most eternal. More than ever before. Not the good things. Or even the better things. But the best things. The very best things."

Designer Penguin Book Collection

Yea! More penguin books to love. If you've enjoyed the much loved "designer" version of the Penguin Classic collection, you will be so happy to know that Amazon now has more books to add to the collection.  I am so very excited to someday add to my collection:
(how great is the treasure island palm & parrot?)

Oh, but wait...
My absolute, and I mean ABSOLUTE FAVE is LITTLE WOMEN.
Ihave adored and loved Louisa May Alcott since a little girl.
I have been to her home a dozen times outside of Boston. I'm so happy that Penguin
has made Little Women into a "designer" book.  Oh! I love this collection.

LEIFSDOTTIR

love this store + site
even if the clothing is way-out-of-my league in price, I can still appreciate the beauty.
 This photography is amazing.
That is how I feel when I receive an Anthropologie catalog.
I get so excited just to look at the styling and photography, oh...and of course, the clothes.

is the sister store to Anthropologie and you can tell just by the beauty.
Aren't these pictures just so...
what is the word I could use?  I feel like they take me on a foreign and historical trip.
A journey.
So, the name is interesting, no?  Here is their description of how they got it:

"Leifsdottir is a young designer collection by Finland native Johanna Uurasjarvi. Meaning “daughter of Leif,” Leifsdottir illuminates the Scandinavian custom of inheriting your father’s name as your surname at birth. It is this sense of tradition and authenticity that is reflected in each and every Leifsdottir collection. In the words of Uurasjarvi,
“No matter how modern our designs, they are always in some way a reflection of the past.”
Leifsdottir expresses its appreciation for the past by using antique-inspired buttons and trims, in addition to old-world tailoring techniques and fabrics. Juxtaposing this are artistic, modern twists like abstract photographic prints, unexpected color combinations, and uniquely draped silhouettes and proportions."

I have Scandinavian ancestors and my maiden name is Rasmussen, so I am familiar with the father's name as your surname.... "son of Rasmus."  I find the historical meaning in names so interesting.  I think that it is really neat that they used  a name that has historical significance to represent their company and to be a part of their branding... very smart!

Who is their customer?

"She is a modern woman, who wants to look pretty and polished, while showing off her personality.
Because of this, she is drawn to the charm and soul of Leifsdottir"

Love it! That is all of us, right?
At least we can all get some fashion inspiration.

Elizabeth Kimberly Designs. Um.....I'm Speechless.

I was attempting to clean my crazy mountain of magazines, but the word attempt is quite accurate.  As soon as I start to browse an issue I am derailed from the task at hand.  I came across an old Utah Style & Design issue and found a new-to-me locally based design team that I am in awe with.  After you see a few pics from Elizabeth Kimberly Designs, you'll know what I'm talking about.  I'm am quite impressed and quite amazed with their quality, classy, and timeless work.

I love black doors.  I have a black door too, however I don't have those fantastic door knockers.

The nail head detail is really quite fantastic.
I'm looking in my home trying to find where I could add this touch!

My husband loves to hunt.  I have made a strict policy that no animal heads are allowed in the main living area.  He has some in his home office, work office, and garage, however, if I could slap some stylin' wallpaper behind it....I just may consider changing my mind.  I'm really liking that cozy reading room.

Where do I begin with my love for this room?
The pop of yellow and blue, the crispness of white, the chairs, the organization, the easel in the corner...
Are you speechless like me?
Isn't it fantastic that there are so many talented designers and people in the world?
