Maps Book

I have this thing for maps and globes... maybe I'm just dreaming of traveling.
I've been looking for maps to frame for my wall gallery,
and came across this fantastic find of a book: Maps by Lena Corwin.

Lena Corwin began illustrating city maps monthly for an interiors magazine in 2004
and decided to gather her forty favorite maps and make a book.
There are 20 maps of cities in the United States and 20 maps of cities outside the US.
I think this would make for a fun gift to someone who loves a good
coffee table book and/or who loves to travel.

Miss Lisa's Little Book Club

My friend and neighbor, Lisa, is so crazy creative and amazing! Just a few months ago she started My Little Book Club, and lucky me, I get to benefit... well, my children get to benefit. My kids love and adore her and count down the days until they get to go to book club.  Each week she chooses a new theme, new book, and has projects that correspond with the book.  I don't mean she just does a little project... she goes all out. People sometimes find their niche in life, and this is for sure Lisa's niche.
I just think this is such an amazing idea and am so grateful that my children get to have such good experiences with reading and learning. Thanks Lisa!

Kate Spade: Things We Love

This photo makes me happy!
Stripes & Color= Happy.
This could belong to none other than Kate Spade.

This is just one of the fabulous photos in a little clutch-sized book
of inspirations designed and published by Kate Spade New York.
During the Kate Spade party at Alt Summit, we were given one of these
limited edition books that shares what inspires the creative
team at Kate Spade New York.
{I love this idea and totally want  to copy it and create one of my own...
even one for our family.  That would make a fun family tradition
to make a book of faves and have each member have a
chapter, page, or whatever...
huh. I'm gonna have to chew on that idea.}

Back to the original point of this post...
Dying over these vivacious pages.

Marvelous. Simply marvelous.
You said it so well Kate and team,
with beautiful colors, photos, & shinny excellence.
What a fun gift to receive. Thanks!

Book Love

Hey Mr. Santa! Ho! Ho!
I'm just sharing a few fabulous books that are on my ever-growing book-wish-list.
To start off, I'm so dying to take a peak at the two new Johnathan Adler books.
These are at the top of my list.
Love his bright, funky style.

I love this book by Leroy Grannis: Surf Photography of the 1960s and 1970s
What a fantastic coffee table book. Full of beach, surf and retro fun.

Modern Glamour by Kelly Wearstler

The Fashion Files: Advice, Tips, and Inspiration from the Costume Designer of Mad Men. I mean seriously...the clothing, decor and design that comes from this show is fantastic!
I adore.

I'm interested in learning more about cooking gluten-free and this book
looks like a good place to start! ;)

I can't wait to check out Barefoot Contessa's new book.

I'm always up for a good historical read and I've heard this book
about George Washington is a really good read.

American Modern is just one of several home interior books on my list.
I could go on and on with more book love. It's funny, in an ever
advancing technological world, I don't know if I'll ever let my book love go.
There is something about holding a physical book and
admiring amazing photography.
How about you? What books are on your list right now?

Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini + Puffin Books= The Perfect Classic

I was in Anthropologie the other day and saw these new amazing books from Puffin Books.  I am completely smitten with the designs by Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini.  These books would make the perfect gift or perfect decor for a child's room.  What is it about books that make them so desirable? I could buy books all day long, both to read and use for decorating.  These covers remind me of a few other book obsessions that I've mentioned here and here.  This art work is perfectly amazing for these perfect classic stories.  Now, I can judge these books by their covers! :)

The Door Book & Michael Dobson Photography

I love a great coffee table book, I am in awe with amazing photography,
and I am quite fond of a beautiful or unique entrance.
I especially find doors quite interesting and revealing.
That is why I was so excited to learn about a project of an old friend of mine from high school,
Michael Dobson.  He became an amazing photographer and has been busy traveling the world
and photographing his journey. He has taken a special interest in photographing beautiful,
interesting, and unique doors from around the world.
Michael Dobson has  made several calendars and now has a beautiful book called

These are just a few photos that I loved.
Quite honestly, it was hard to narrow down to a few faves.  There are so many wonderful
and interesting doors, and the photography is just beautiful.
There is also a calendar of New York doors that is just fantastic!
I wonder if he'll make a calendar of doors from Boston, or for that matter, New England?
I think that New England has so many doors with character and charm.
Then again, so does the south. I know I've photographed many charming doors in Virginia,
Mississippi, and South Carolina.  Oh! and Italy.  Now there are some beautiful doors in Italy too!
What a fantastic project Mike!
I can't wait to see where your journey takes you next, and what doors you'll be finding along the way.
And this beautiful book is now at the top of my Christmas list...
Hello Santa! Are you taking notes?

Coralie Bickford-Smith: Deco Book Covers

Spotted these deco-inspired metallic covers for six titles from f. scott fitzgerald, over on Design*Sponge and instantly fell in love. Instantly. Wish I could just frame these books. The designs and colors are just beautiful, and love that they are metallic... so timeless. How lovely would this set look on your shelves, in your library, or as part of your decor?  I know my library would really welcome such stunning books/art.
In fact, I'm thinking it would make an incredibly thoughtful Christmas gift. Maybe Coralie is thinking that same thing since the release date is November 4th. What a talented smarty she is!

Blurb Photo Book

I just got back today from a little trip to NYC with Mr. D.
We went to have a little get-away and we also went to visit my
brother and his wife before they leave NY.  My brother has been going to Cornell
and is graduating next week. I'm super proud of him and it was a lot of fun to spend a
few days with them in NYC. I'll share some fun things we did on our vacation in a bit...

But first, this is what I did for Mother's Day this year.
I finally finished a project I started last year.  I wanted to do something with all of the cute photos
I had from a photo shoot with the kids, and from Baby G's new born pics.
I haven't been good about printing my pictures and placing them in photo books,
so I decided to make a  Blurb book.  I can't tell you how much I loved the Blurb program.
It was extremely easy to use and I was very impressed with the quality of the book.
I printed a book for both my mom and my mother-in-law,
then I printed a book for each child to have when they get a bit older.

My goal is to make a Blurb book each year,
so that I make sure I'm doing something with all of our digital photos.
At the suggestion of my sister-in-law, Brooke,
I'd like to start the books with each school year and then end with the summer.
I like that idea of organizing it with the school year, since that is how I tend
to think of the year anyway, with a grade.
I am really excited to have a hard copy of all those pics I'm taking that are normally just
saved on my discs and hard drives.

I have also seen people make normal books with Blurb as well.
If you have an idea for a book, but don't have a publisher, you can just make your book,
text or photo, and print it to sell until you get a publisher.
Once again, the quality is fantastic!

Pinkalicious, Purplicious, and now... GOLDILICIOUS!

If you have a princess in your home, and you have yet to discover these three cute books,
you might want to check them out.
I wrote some time ago on my daughter's favorite books: Pinkalicious and Purplicious by Victoria Kann.

Just wanted to inform those who may not know yet... Goldilicious is the new fave!
She loves Goldilicious because it involves a unicorn. Did you love unicorns when you were little?
I so remember loving unicorns, what is it about unicorns that is so enchanting?

 Another thing that is enchanting...
watching a child learn new skills.  I love to see how excited children get when they are
discovering and learning new-to-them things.
I think that is why I was a teacher, once upon a time.  The process of learning is just so exciting!
A-girl has become quite the little reader lately.  She is one determined girl!  It is so cute to see her get frustrated, shut-down, find her determination, try again, succeed, and rejoice with excitement when she tackles another little reading book.  What a little spunk I have on my hands!
Thank heaven for little girls.  I love and adore my Ashy!

Designer Penguin Book Collection

Yea! More penguin books to love. If you've enjoyed the much loved "designer" version of the Penguin Classic collection, you will be so happy to know that Amazon now has more books to add to the collection.  I am so very excited to someday add to my collection:
(how great is the treasure island palm & parrot?)

Oh, but wait...
My absolute, and I mean ABSOLUTE FAVE is LITTLE WOMEN.
Ihave adored and loved Louisa May Alcott since a little girl.
I have been to her home a dozen times outside of Boston. I'm so happy that Penguin
has made Little Women into a "designer" book.  Oh! I love this collection.
