Porch Planters

I have had a hard time finding the right planters for my porch.
Just couldn't find the right size, style, and color all in one. So, I finally went to
the Homey-D (Home Depot) and purchased the size and style I wanted,
then conveniently went to the paint section and selected a fun, bight yellow spray paint
and adapted the planters to what I wanted.
I'm happy with the bright, summery statement that they make.
I still need to add flowers, but am waiting for the weather to cooperate.

Striped Walls in Mudroom: Gray + White

It finally happened! I have wanted horizontal stripes for quite some time now,
I just couldn't decide exactly where... hall, bedroom, or mudroom?
It ended up in the mudroom and I'm so excited. Every time I pass through our mudroom,
I have a smile on my face. The stripes just make me happy.

**The organizer above is from IKEA and holds the socks and shoes for my 4 kids.
They each get a baskets for socks and one for shoes.
For us, it's hard enough to get out the door even with this organizer,
but it just simplifies the process a little more. Anything helps, right? ;)

***The random cabinet door on the wall is our hidden organizer.
When we built our home, I had them do a cut-out to put in a cork board
so we could have our messy papers hidden:
our calender and all our papers from dance, gymnastics, piano, baseball, etc.
Right now, I'm tempted to paint it with that chalkboard paint so it can be a chalkboard/message board too...

Everything is almost complete...
I just need to find the perfect mudroom rug--
with my track history this could take awhile...
I want something funky, bright & the perfect color to hide dirt since it is in a mudroom.
I also need to hang something, possibly hooks, on the wall above the bench.
But for now, I'm super happy.
We did a little more painting... so more photos later!

Paint, Paint, & more Paint

I have paint on my mind quite a bit lately.  I am 99% sure on what I want to paint the kitchen.
I KNOW that I am painting it a slate blue, however, I'm just trying to finalize which slate blue.
I have a fun eggplant color I'd like to paint my bathroom mirror,
and a fun green color I'd like to paint the kids bathroom mirror.
I'm also thinking of painting horizontal stripes in the entry and hallway.  Can't wait to get going on these projects... now, it's all about finding the time to accomplish the projects.

I'm trying to update the house a bit, and I'm finding that paint is a cheap and fun way
to use what you have and freshen things up a bit.  I've been looking through magazines,
books, and online trying to get ideas.
Here are a few great ideas that I enjoyed from Martha Stewart.

I love this banquette and emerald green back ground in the shelves.  Notice the blue plates...
those are the Iittala Taika Designed dinnerware by Finish artist, Klaus Haapaniemi.
I just adore the imaginative and unique design.
In fact, I love this storytelling dinnerware so much that I have included it in my

So, back to paint.
I love yellow and I'm loving this collage of frames all painted different shades of yellow.

Another color I'm debating is black.  I'm so tempted to use black in my entry,
solid or in the stripes. I'm also tempted to use it in my bedroom. I love the classy bold statement.
I like the idea of using your old headboard, but just sprucing it up with a beautiful color.

A few more ways to involve a fresh coat of paint. On old file cabinets, on a wood floor, on old storage baskets, or an old dresser. I'm all about color!

Too die for!

Half a table and find a new life for it, make your own carpet runner,
make your own small chairs, and brighten up a vintage console.
Love all of these ideas from Martha Stewart.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend!
Any fun plans? I think I may work on a few projects...

Spray Paint Love and Animal Decor

So, I have become I little spray paint happy again... the chair above was a great find! A Restoration Hardware bamboo chair found at a local overstock store.  It was white, but had some damage that needed to be covered, so I found this great turquoise color.

Next, I have seen some fantastic, bright colored, ceramic animals used in decor lately, and I wanted to add a few to our home.  However, the cost of these animals was more than I wanted to spend. So, I took the kids to Hobby Lobby and let them each choose an animal they wanted in their rooms, and then we painted the animals. The kids loved picking an animal and having a little paint project, and I liked adding something fun to their room decor. Plus, I bought these when Hobby Lobby had them for 50% off. It was a pretty inexpensive way to add a little color and fun to their rooms.

Color Trends Here to Stay

I really like this article on Elle Decor's site about color trends.  They have some good ideas on colors, which is what I need right now since I'm trying to decide on a color for my kitchen/family room.  I'm leaning towards a slate blue, but I'm just narrowing which one to use.  Have any of you used a light slate blue that you liked?

 Personal Style

“The best way to make our lives less stressful is to surround ourselves with colors we love,” says color consultant Bonnie Krims.
Some of the color pro’s all-time favorite colors include:
1) Sherwin-Williams: Determined Orange (6635) “It's is a safe orange. It’s bold without being garish or too bright. It’s a beautiful backdrop in a den or family room.”
2) Pratt & Lambert: Bayou (24-28) “This dreamy color makes you feel as though you are in the middle of the ocean.”
3) Benjamin Moore: Glass Slipper (1632) “Everything looks good with this faded neutral sky blue.”

Plum is the new Black

Color consultant Bonnie Krims swears plum is on its way to replacing black. Her plum suggestion: Benjamin Moore’s Purple Lotus (2072-30). “It’s a deep, rich plum and a nice neutral backdrop,” says Krims.

Touch of Gray

A bedroom whose walls are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Sidewalk Gray (2133-60) evokes a calming influence. The room represents “Modern Tranquility,” a Benjamin Moore 2008 palette characterized by neutral hues that emphasize spaciousness with a quiet suggestion of color.
