Angie Hranowsky Design Studio

Right now it is snowing outside.
Although I love snow, especially during the holidays, I am always dreaming of a nice,
sunny, warm beach.  One place that I happen to love is Charleston, South Carolina.
Mr. D and I spent our 5 year anniversary there, and I've been wanting to take our
children back ever since then.  Actually, the dream is to rent a beach house on
Hilton Head and then travel around the area, which I adore.
Anyway... this fantastic home is located in Charleston, South Carolina,
which is interesting since Charleston is known for it's historical charm.
Although I'm a huge fan of the southern/eastern style, which is actually the exterior
style of my home, this modern twist in this home is perfect for me.
This style makes me so happy!

The owner and designer?
Why it is Angie Hranowsky and she just happens to have her own design studio.
I am obsessed with her style and work.

I love Angie's use and mix of color, texture, patterns, vintage and modern.
There is something a little unexpected and pleasant about they way she
incorporates each piece in her home.

I would love to move in her home right now! Everything is just perfect. Simply perfect.

Lovin' Me Some Cool Products

This Geneva Sound System was the winner of the 2010 I.D. International Consumer
Products Award.  It is small but has a mighty hi-fi system and I'm sure many other fantastic features... however, I first fell in love with the fun retro design.
I think this will be on my want/wish list for quite a long time, but at least I can still admire from afar.

A stylin' humidifier! This is oh, so cool.
This great design combines convenience, comfort and style into one attractive package.
Plus, there a bunch of happy colors to choose from.

a sleek tissue holder that is a stylin' disguise for those tissues
I need throughout the house for my cute kiddos.
Love that there are so many creative people that can create so many cool products!

Wonderful Christmas Madness

Whew!  It has sure been a busy month... What is it with this December? I don't know how you mom's out there do it.  I seriously feel so crazed trying to accomplish everything I'd like to and need to do everyday, but somehow I always feel short, late, tired, and just so....is there even a word to describe? Maybe it is because my kids are getting a little older that things seem to have taken on a new kind of craziness this season.  Some things just had to fall to the way-side, and my blog was just one of them.
Highlights of the month:
I've had fun keeping up with Modern Palm.  I have so enjoyed having my store these last few months.  I can't believe how much I have learned and how much I still need to learn, but it has been an overwhelming adventure and fun process.
Ashy's 6th birthday friend and family parties.  We did a fairy woodland party with her darling friends and had a great time. She has also been busy with gymnastics and dance performances. Isaac did very well at his Christmas piano recital and is having a blast with basketball.  I had a little Christmas neighborhood luncheon at my home, and then, of course, our annual girl Christmas party that we've done every year since high school. I absolutely love getting together with my friends and Stacy had a great party this year. We also had  our couples Christmas party, that is always a blast.
Ashy and I had two mommy/daughter dates. We went to the Rockets Christmas Spectacular, which was... spectacular. Then we went with the girls in our family to to the Nutcracker, which is such a fun tradition.  We love doing our annual service activities with my family. Each year it is something different, but this year we took blankets that we made and toys to the Primary Childrens Hospital and the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Then we went to Temple Square to see the amazing Christmas lights display. This is by far one of my favorite Christmas traditions. We will also take cookies to the firemen on Christmas Eve.
Last night, at Ashlyn's dance recital we were able to finally see Santa, after a few other failed attempts. Isaac and Ashlyn were obviously excited and ready to tell him their Christmas list wishes. I didn't know how Jack would do, but was pleasantly surprised to see how calm he was with Santa... Gray on the other hand, although super excited to see him beforehand, constantly repeating Ho! Ho! Ho!, started freaking out when it came time to sit on his lap.  Screaming.
Oh! how I love this age.  Gray will be two next month and he is so darling and entertaining. He's been sick lately and has been having sleepless nights... I've been having bad flashbacks  to when he was wee babe and how many sleepless nights I had with him.  I'm having a hard time functioning.  This has been a great reminder of why I'm not getting pregnant any time soon. :)
The Polar Express...Last weekend we did our annual fun but simple Polar Express in our own car.  I put a Polar Express hand-made ticket on the bed with the kids Christmas PJ's laid out.  The kids are saying, "what are we going to do tonight," and Mr. D and I said, "oh! maybe we'll just hangout at home tonight. Why don't you go get your pj's on." All of a sudden we hear the excitement of "it's polar express night! Ya!" They get so excited for this simple, but fun annual event. We get in our "polar express" in pj's with our blankets and popcorn, pop in the Polar Express movie and go to Thanksgiving Point to see the lights.  Thanksgiving Point has a Christmas light display that you can drive thru, which I personally think they need to amp-it-up-a-bit, but the kids enjoy. Then we go get hot chocolate and continue to drive thru different neighborhoods to see the lights.
Now that all these other events have happened, I need to focus on our neighbor, teacher, family, and friend gifts.  Um... this year I'm a bit unprepared. Christmas cards didn't quite happen. Still debating if I want to make a LATE attempt. I have so enjoyed this eventful month though. I feel like it has been so full of the true spirit of Christmas. How grateful I am for the friends and family we have in our lives.
There it is, a little wrap-up of our month. Hope y'all have enjoyed this month and hope this week will be filled with more wonderful holiday excitement.

Oatmeal Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies

This cookie dough has all my favorites...
oats, coconut, & chocolate.
This is one of my favorite dough recipes ever...
oh, and the cookie is yummy too.

Oatmeal Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 large eggs
3-4 tbsp of milk
2 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 -3 cups oats
2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup sweetened coconut ( I actually used 1/2 sweetened and half natural coconut)

Preheat oven to 350.
Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by milk and vanilla extract.  Gradually beat the flour into the sugar mixture, add salt. Stir in oats, coconut and chocolate chips.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 mins.

2010 Green Home of the Year: Country Living

Country Living  has debuted their 2010 Green House of the Year in the
World Financial Center in Lower Manhattan.
Seriously, what a darling home in the middle of the city!

I think there are so many great things about this home, beyond the green aspect.
For starters, I adore the fun bright wallpaper and love the unique light to add
a little spice to the entry/mudroom.
I also like how they continued the wallpaper into the living room,
but added a twist with putting the wallpaper on the ceiling. Love it!

What a nice, rustic kitchen. I feel like some delicious pie should be baking in the oven...

I really love the mix of the blue and purple colors in the above reading nook.
And do you recognize the red shade fabric?
It is from Katherine Rally and Modern Palm has pillows and tablecloths to match.

This wall gallery is simply fantastic! Love the simple white frames, paired with bright prints.
It makes such a uniform statement. Seriously fantastic!
If you want more of the Green details on the home visit their site.

Book Love

Hey Mr. Santa! Ho! Ho!
I'm just sharing a few fabulous books that are on my ever-growing book-wish-list.
To start off, I'm so dying to take a peak at the two new Johnathan Adler books.
These are at the top of my list.
Love his bright, funky style.

I love this book by Leroy Grannis: Surf Photography of the 1960s and 1970s
What a fantastic coffee table book. Full of beach, surf and retro fun.

Modern Glamour by Kelly Wearstler

The Fashion Files: Advice, Tips, and Inspiration from the Costume Designer of Mad Men. I mean seriously...the clothing, decor and design that comes from this show is fantastic!
I adore.

I'm interested in learning more about cooking gluten-free and this book
looks like a good place to start! ;)

I can't wait to check out Barefoot Contessa's new book.

I'm always up for a good historical read and I've heard this book
about George Washington is a really good read.

American Modern is just one of several home interior books on my list.
I could go on and on with more book love. It's funny, in an ever
advancing technological world, I don't know if I'll ever let my book love go.
There is something about holding a physical book and
admiring amazing photography.
How about you? What books are on your list right now?

Backsplash Ideas

traditional kitchen design by san francisco general contractor Mueller Nicholls Cabinets and Construction

I always love checking out what people do with their back splashes.
There are so many different styles and ideas that I'd love to use for a backsplash.  I'm always drawn to the simple,
classic, timeless white, but then I adore a fun and funky style that makes a statement
and adds excitement to the room.
We just recently changed our backsplash and counters.  We now have the Carrera Marble counters
and I almost did white subway tiles... but last minute opted for the black, gray, and white marble mosaic tiles.
I already did white tiles with random pewter squares in our basement kitchenette,
so I decided to do something a little more funky and fun.
Plus, our upstairs backsplash area is so small that I like the punch of design and color this adds to our kitchen.
